The One Where JT Doesn't Have A Generic Number
Thank you so much GregB, for the following. I feel like such an ass now for saying JT Snow had a generic number.
Hi Nancy! First time reader, first time blogger... the way i understand it, Snow's number is in homage to his dad's number... here's a link to a story from usatoady (yes, i realize the spelling...)... http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/al/redsox/2006-03-07-jt-snow-no-84_x.htm
and here's an excerpt from the article linked above for those too busy, too tired, too ___________, etc....
"The number on J.T. Snow's jersey sends a different message.
The first baseman, entering his 15th season in the majors but his first with the Boston Red Sox, doesn't worry about being sent down. He wears No. 84 to pay tribute to his late father, Jack, an All-America wide receiver at Notre Dame and a standout with the Los Angeles Rams from 1965-75.
While his father lay in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis in early January, severely ill and unable to speak because of complications from a staph infection, Snow told him he would be wearing that No. 84.
His dad died a few days later. He was 62.
"I told him, and it brought a smile to his face," says Snow, who signed as a free agent with the Red Sox after spending the last nine seasons with the San Francisco Giants. "He is the reason I am here and I've played as long as I have. He meant everything to me."
The latter years of Snow's relationship with his father were among the best...."
Aww, we miss you even more JT.

The One Where Everyone Needs To Shut Up About Barry
GOD I AM SO SICK OF HEARING ABOUT BARRY BONDS. THE MEDIA NEEDS TO QUIT IT. Now I am a huge Giants fan, which kind of automatically makes me a Barry Bonds fan, and I have to admit, it's pretty exciting having the most feared slugger on your team, but dude, enough is enough. Barry this barry that. Every Giants game recap is all about how Barry was pitched. How Barry is old. How Barry is injured. How Barry will dodge questions about steroid use. The media won't get a freaking clue. He won't ever talk to them about that and yet every question is about it. Grow a brain!
Also, putting the perjury crap aside, Barry is offensively boring this so far. Barry is nothing worth devoting 3/5ths of replay time to. Does the world really care how he was pitched at every game? NO. What they should focus on are the awesome plays coming from Vizquel. They need to devote more time to Randy Winn, best-thing-to-come-out-of-Seattle-since-Starbucks. Tim Worrell, whose been a great interim closer. Matt Morris. Mike Matheny's ass. Show them that stuff. We really don't need to see every walk, ground out and strike out by Barry Bonds. The only time we'll care is if he actually hits something, which he will, and then they can go ad nauseum about whatever they want, asterisks, whatever.
If they want some steroid controversy, maybe they should pay more attention to Albert Pujols. You think he's not juiced?!
